Chinese Empires

This new Topic Center brings to life several Chinese dynasties, including the Qin, Han, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties, and discusses what society and daily life were like in ancient China, as well as the arts and sciences that came out of it and more. Study the concept of the Mandate of Heaven, watch a slideshow on daily life in Han China, or read excerpts by Confucius, Zhuangzi, Sima Qian, or Li Qingzhao.

Indian Empires

Three successive states—the Maurya and Gupta Empires and the Delhi Sultanate—ruled northern India in ancient times. India’s religions, the social system formed under Vedic Hinduism, and the government institutions established by India’s rulers had far-reaching influence. The new Indian Empires Topic Center covers the history of and what life was like during the Maurya Empire, Gupta Empire, and Delhi Sultanate. Read excerpts from primary sources, study a map of the Delhi Sultanate, watch a video on ancient India, and more.

Europe

The history of ancient and medieval Europe extends from the arrival of the first modern humans during the Paleolithic to the early stirrings of the Renaissance. This new region-focused Topic Center covers the geography and development of Europe during this period, with special looks at the Celts, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Germanics, Vikings, Slavs, and Rus. Study maps of the changing European coastlines following the last ice age, watch a video on the Celts, research the history of the Slavs, read the Magna Carta, view a slideshow on medieval castles, and more.
