ChatGPT and other AI tools are a huge concern in academia. You know your students are using these tools, and it’s impossible to stop them. Like Wikipedia and Google before them, the most practical path is for libraries to show students and faculty ways in which these tools can be used well and ethically to support their work. You can even promote library resources at the same time.
In this half-hour webinar, librarian and Infobase Customer Success Manager Henrietta Thornton will show you how to use Credo platforms to fact-check information found in ChatGPT, an exercise that you can use as a group project in class. Thornton will also show the newest material in Credo Information Literacy – Core, a tutorial that addresses the use of AI in academic work and that could be assigned as flipped learning before the ChatGPT/Credo assignment.
What you can learn:
- What ChatGPT is and how it differs from a search engine.
- The kinds of flaws found in the information it produces.
- How to use Credo platforms to fact-check ChatGPT and, in the process, demonstrate to students that AI is unreliable.
- Where to find information on AI in Credo InfoLit – Core, our modular courseware on information literacy, developed by librarians and correlated with the ACRL framework and other U.S. and international standards.
