Accessibility at Infobase

Our Commitment

We are committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can access and engage meaningfully and effectively with our information literacy solutions. Universal design and accessibility are foundational to our commitment.

Our commitment extends across our entire portfolio, from databases and research tools to digital encyclopedias and multimedia resources used in schools, colleges and libraries. We understand the importance of accessibility in those settings, and we work continuously to meet the accessibility expectations of the communities we serve.

Infobase strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These internationally recognized guidelines define how digital content can be made accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, and they form the benchmark against which we measure and improve our products. We provide detailed insights into product accessibility through Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs), also known as Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs), which are available on request.

In alignment with our mission, we are also working to support our institutions in meeting the upcoming changes to Title II of the ADA. Through ongoing resources and guidance, we help institutions achieve the updated standards while fostering equitable learning environments.

How We Design, Build, and Test for Accessibility

Accessibility is integral to how we develop and deliver our products. Infobase product and technical teams employ universal design and inclusive practices throughout development, from initial concept, design, testing, and delivery.

Here are a few of our standard company practices:

  • We write semantic, standards-compliant HTML with WAI-ARIA markup so that assistive technologies such as screen readers and voice control software can accurately interpret and navigate our interfaces.
  • We verify that all interactive elements are fully keyboard-navigable and that focus is managed predictably throughout each product.
  • We create and provide meaningful text alternatives for all non-text content, including images, and captions, transcripts, and audio descriptions for audio and video content.
  • We support presentation standards such as text reflow, zoom, and color / contrast ratios.
  • We employ sound practices and tools to test our products and platforms to ensure they meet needed accessibility standards.
  • Across the company, we continuously review our accessibility practices and, when needed, improve them to ensure that we always embody our commitment.

How We Make It Happen

Here are a few of the ways Infobase works to meet our accessibility commitments every day:

  • Accessibility Standards: We work diligently to ensure our products adhere to WCAG 2.2 AA, and we update our progress annually through Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) that fulfill accessibility conformance reporting (ACRs).
  • Cross-Functional Accessibility Team: Senior leaders and product and technical experts meet regularly to ensure we operate with best practices, resolve challenges quickly and effectively, and design our products and platforms to high standards for inclusive design.
  • Accessibility by Design: Product and technical teams always keep universal design and accessibility practices in mind as they develop, test, and deliver products and services.
  • Priority Accessibility Support: Our customer response and resolution processes ensure accessibility needs are reviewed and addressed across all teams with no less importance than any other product or service concern.
  • Community Involvement: We build and foster relationships with accessibility experts and organizations across the world to ensure we remain knowledgeable and prepared to meet any need or challenge.
